We Want a Divorce… What Do We Do Now?

April 16, 2020 By Linda Tell

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought life to a major slowdown if not a screeching halt.

If you contemplated divorce pre-pandemic, four weeks of sheltering in place with your mate may have convinced you divorce is inevitable.

With the California Courts closed, a once unclear path is now, even more confusing.  We may not know when the court will reopen, but we can be sure it will take some additional time to set hearings and trials, delaying new cases for months.  Litigation has always been costly financially and emotionally.  Wouldn’t you rather have a means of resolving your conflicts and ending your marriage now, without unnecessary complications?  Wouldn’t you like to get divorced without ruining your children’s lives?

If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, there a few things you can do now to get started.

Attend a “Divorce Options Workshop” on Zoom.

This 3-hour program will provide you invaluable information that you need to know BEFORE you decide which way to proceed.  There are various processes to divorce.  The pros and cons of each are discussed so that you can select the most appropriate process for you and your family.  Learn more at www.sacramentocollaborativedivorce.com

Find a Professional on the website and call them.

Sacramento Collaborative Divorce Group attorneys may provide several services: mediation, collaborative divorce and litigation.  The financial specialist members can help you begin the process and tell you what financial documents you will need.  The divorce coaches or child specialists can offer assistance with the emotional aspects of divorce, communication difficulties and creating child-centered parenting plans.  Any of our members can help you get started!

Be gentle with yourself!

This is a stressful time for you, complicated by a global crisis.  You do not have to do this alone.  We are here to help!
