About My Practice
Prior to starting her own firm, Ms. Mayer gained practical experience working at a family law litigation firm, at a boutique estate planning law firm, and in-house as an attorney for the Department of Health Care Services. Heather’s broad experience provides her with the skill set necessary to find the best case approach for each of her clients.
Ms. Mayer is well-versed in all aspects of family law cases, including adoption, paternity, divorce, custody and support. In her free time, she volunteers by assisting low income parties finalize their divorce through the Sacramento County One-Day Divorce Program and she is on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento County Collaborative Practice Group.
Ms. Mayer has handled family law and probate cases in the local counties of Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado, and understands the nuances of each court. She enjoys researching unique legal issues and was able to expand upon this while clerking for the presiding judge of the Probate Department for the Sacramento County Superior Court.
Education and Training
Ms. Mayer graduated from the University of California, Davis with degrees in both Political Science and in Communications. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law with a Certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice.
Heather earned a Certificate in Mediation from the Northern California Mediation Center and is also a trained Collaborative Law attorney, belonging to both the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) and the Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group (SCPG).
Awards and Honors
During law school, Heather Mayer was recognized with the Award for Best Oral Advocate and the Pro Bono Award. Ms. Mayer is the recipient of the prestigious Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in the following areas:
- Wills & Trusts;
- Advanced Legal Writing;
- Interviewing & Counseling; and
- The Advanced Practice Clinic of the Northern California Innocence Project.
She also earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in:
- Family Wealth Management; and
- Community Property.
Most recently, Ms. Mayer was honored with the Avvo Client’s Choice Award and the Rising Stars Award from Super Lawyers in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
